Huang Suying

For foreigners who think 'I want to go to Shizuoka but….. I worry a bit' please don't worry. Shizuoka is as beautiful, comfortable and enjoyable as always. Please let yourself be informed about this present situation in Shizuoka by foreigners living in Shizuoka.

I am going to introduce Hamamatsu area.
Huang Suying from Taiwan.
After graduating from Taipei university I came to Japan as an exchange student 19 years ago. Moving from Tokyo via Nagoya I now live in Yaezu city where I do translation and interpretation work from Chinese to Japanese and vice versa. With my Japanese wife and junior high school son we are a family of three.

In the production area of Shizuoka you can not only eat but also harvest. In one word delicious!

The fruit park is very wide. There is a lot of green which gives you a good feeling.

It was the first time in my life to experience picking fruit. We harvested Japanese pears, pples and strawberries. It was really fun. Selecting the ones you like is exciting isn’t it? Personally the most interesting thing for me was picking apples by hand. They come of with a snap when you twist them. When I ate figs there on the spot I felt that they are so sweet and delicious.

Shizuoka does not only have the merit of eating fruit you can also harvest them yourself.

On a surface of nine times of Tokyo dome you can find 160 kinds and 4300 fruit trees in the agricultural park. Enjoyable things are experiencing picking fruit that is in season. Selecting apples or Japanese pears with the perfect color and shape. (picture 1) Huang’s rich harvest (picture 2,3)

Even if I have to line up I want to eat it. After all the home of eel is special.

When talking about Hamamatsu naturally eel comes to mind, doesn’t it?

Here at Shimizuya it is very crowded because it is so popular. Off course I had the broiled eel. Soft and soaked in a slightly strong tasting sauce it is very delicious. The portions are big. I was really full. This year I failed to eat eel on the day of the ox so today is for me the day of the ox. In Taiwan if you go to a Japanese restaurant you can order broiled eel but eating it in the place where it originally comes from is special.

Thank you for the nice meal.

People from other prefectures keep coming here to eat at this restaurant specialized in eel (picture 3). Broiled slowly on Bincho charcoal makes it softer and fluffier, delicious (picture 2). Huang said that he was really looking forward to it (picture 1) ate it up till the last crumb.

Not only hot springs also temples and sceneries. Enjoy various things.

There are many things to see at Kanzanji. First of all I like the typical Japanese calm atmosphere.

There was an inscription expressing commemorative friendly relations with China and there was a famous Chinese poem engraved. I was deeply moved. If you climb the mountain there is an observatory. The view of lake Hamanako was breathtaking. I got on the ropeway connecting the amusement park and when going to an ever higher observatory where you not only can see lake Hamanako but also the city of Hamamatsu and the Pacific Ocean so overwhelming.

Kinzanji with its hot springs left a deep impression and when you walk around you can find interesting things.
